1Overview#
This Privacy Policy explains how [Legal entity name — to confirm] (“Ashore”, “we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use Ashore, an IELTS Speaking practice service with AI mock tests and lessons. The Ashore website and the Ashore mobile app share one backend, so this policy covers both.
In short: we collect what we need to run your tests and lessons, and we measure how Ashore is used so we can fix and improve it. We don’t show ads, we don’t use advertising trackers, and we don’t sell your personal information.
2Information we collect#
- Account. Your email address and how you sign in: an email code, Google or Apple. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the email address that provider shares with us.
- Recordings. Audio of your answers in mock tests, stored as FLAC files in private storage hosted by Supabase, and the recordings you make in practice lessons.
- Practice results. Transcripts of your answers, word-by-word timings, error diagnoses and scores.
- Goals and preferences. Your target band score, your exam date, any real IELTS results you choose to tell us, and your settings.
- App details. The language your app or browser is set to, and the app version you use.
- Usage data. The pages you open, the buttons you press, errors you run into, and your browser or device type, linked to your account ID rather than your email. On the website this can include screen recordings of a visit, with everything you type and your transcripts hidden.
- Service records. The cost, latency and usage of the requests we process for you, and the text the AI model returns to explain a score.
- Subscription. Your plan and payment status. Card numbers and other payment details are handled by Stripe. Ashore does not store your card number.
3How we use it#
We use your information only to provide Ashore to you:
- To sign you in, including sending email sign-in codes.
- To run mock tests and lessons: stream audio, turn your speech into text and play the examiner’s voice.
- To diagnose and score your answers and show you your reports.
- To keep your goals, history and settings in your account.
- To manage your Ashore Pro subscription.
- To keep the service working: track cost, latency and usage, and check how a score was produced when something looks wrong.
- To understand how Ashore is used and improve it, using product analytics.
4What we don’t do#
- No ads. Ashore shows no advertising.
- No ad tracking. We use PostHog for product analytics only, never for advertising. You can turn it off in Settings (Share usage data).
- No selling. We don’t sell your personal information.
- No training on your recordings. We don’t currently use your recordings to train AI models. The app has a setting that lets you allow Ashore to use your recordings to improve the service, and it is off by default. If we ever use recordings this way, we will only use them after you turn that setting on.
5Service providers#
We use the following companies to run Ashore. They process your information only so that they can provide their service to us.
- Supabase
- Database, file storage (including recordings) and sign-in.
- LiveKit
- Real-time audio during mock tests.
- ElevenLabs
- Speech-to-text, and speech synthesis for the examiner’s voice.
- OpenAI
- Diagnosis and scoring based on the text of your transcripts. Our requests are configured not to be stored.
- Stripe
- Payments and subscription management.
- PostHog
- Product analytics, error tracking and session recordings, linked to your account ID, never your email.
- Vercel
- Hosting for the Ashore website.
6How long we keep it#
Nothing is deleted automatically. We keep your information until you delete your account.
When you delete your account in Settings (Delete account), we delete your recordings, transcripts, scores, event records, your analytics profile at PostHog and the account itself.
One thing is not part of that deletion: speech audio we generate from shared, non-personal text is cached by that text so it can be reused. It contains no personal information.
7Your rights#
You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your personal information by emailing [contact email — to confirm].
You can also delete your account and its data yourself at any time in Settings (Delete account).
9Where data is stored#
Our servers are in the United States (Supabase, us-east-1 region). If you use Ashore from another country, your information is transferred to and stored in the United States.
10Age requirement#
Ashore is intended for people aged 16 and over. If you are under 16, please don’t use Ashore.
11Changes to this policy#
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. Our Terms of Service explain the rules for using Ashore.
12Contact#
