An office has unused space beside its entrance. Should it create a quiet reading area or a social area for staff? Explain your choice.
I'd use the space as a social area. At my last office, people from different teams hardly spoke because we worked on separate floors. A few comfortable chairs near the entrance would give them somewhere to have a quick conversation before work. That could make it easier to ask for help later. Also, the entrance is probably too busy for serious reading. People would keep walking past and opening the door, so anyone trying to concentrate might get frustrated. I'd still keep the furniture away from the main walkway and ask people to keep conversations short. For that particular location, a small social area seems much more useful than a quiet room.
