A simpler answer
Checked at band 6.5 · 166 wordsI'd like to introduce a law that says every rented home must have a working smoke alarm and a small fire extinguisher. It would affect landlords and people who rent flats, especially in busy cities where many families live in apartment buildings.
Under the law, landlords would have to install the equipment before a tenant moves in and check it once a year. The government could give them a short time to fix problems, and fine them if they did not. Tenants could report a missing or broken alarm online. I think most people would support it. Renters would feel safer, and many landlords would agree that safety is important. Some owners might complain about the cost, but the equipment is not very expensive.
I want this law because a small fire can spread quickly in a flat. People may not notice it while they are sleeping, so an alarm could give them time to get out. It would be a simple way to protect people.
