A simpler answer
Checked at band 6.5 · 176 wordsI'd like to talk about the rule that limits plastic bags in shops in China. It says shops cannot give customers very thin plastic bags for free, so people have to pay for one or bring their own. It was introduced in 2008, when the government wanted to reduce plastic waste. Before that, people often took several bags even for small things, and many were thrown away after one use. The rule works in a simple way. Shops charge a small amount for bags, and they are not allowed to use the thinnest type. For example, when I buy vegetables at a local market, I usually bring a reusable bag because I don't want to pay for another plastic one. People had different reactions at first. Some complained because they had to pay, but others thought it was a good idea. Now most people seem used to it, and many carry a bag with them. I think it's a good law because it makes people use fewer bags, even though it cannot stop all plastic waste.
