One evening last autumn, on a Friday after work, I met two friends from my old workplace. We went to a small noodle restaurant near the river in my city. It was not a fancy place, but the food was good and it was easy to talk there. We ordered noodles and some side dishes, and we chatted about our jobs and what we had been doing recently. After dinner, we walked along the river for about half an hour. The weather was cool, so it was nice to be outside. We also took a few photos and talked about meeting again soon. I enjoyed the evening because I had been quite busy at work, and it was good to relax with people I knew well. Nobody had to rush home, so we could spend a few hours together. It was a simple evening, but I still remember it as a happy one.

  • Simple evaluation · “the food was good”
  • State a feeling · “it was good to relax”

Honestly, one of the nicest evenings I’ve had recently was last autumn, on a Friday after work. I met two friends from my old workplace, and it felt good to catch up because we don’t see each other very often now. We went to a small noodle restaurant near the river in my city. It’s a relaxed place rather than somewhere fancy, and the tables are close together, so it has a lively atmosphere without being too noisy.

We ordered noodles and a few side dishes to share, which meant we could try a bit of everything. Over dinner, we talked about our jobs, our families and a short trip one of my friends had taken. We weren’t checking the time or looking at our phones much, which made the conversation feel easy. After we ate, we walked along the river for about half an hour. The air was cool, and the lights reflected on the water, so we stopped to take a few photos. We also made a loose plan to meet again, although we hadn’t decided on a date.

I enjoyed it mainly because it was a proper break from a busy week. If I’d stayed home, I probably would have spent the evening scrolling on my phone, but instead I got to laugh and talk with people who know me well. It was nothing extravagant, but that’s exactly why it felt comfortable and memorable.

  • Reason plus feeling · “it felt good to catch up”
  • Make a contrast · “rather than somewhere fancy”
  • Add a specific detail · “which meant we could try”
  • Use a conditional · “If I’d stayed home”
