Describe a venue where you have watched a play or musical. What could you see from your seat, and how did the space affect the show?
The theater I sometimes visit is tucked downstairs in an ordinary office building in my neighborhood, so it's easy to miss. The stage is low, and the audience sits on three sides of it. From my seat, I can see the actors' faces very clearly. I can even hear their shoes moving across the floor. The walls are black, and there are only a few lights above the stage. There isn't much decoration. That makes me focus on the people rather than the background. I like feeling close to the action. A quiet conversation on that stage can feel surprisingly intense. Because there is almost no distance between the actors and the audience, even a small gesture becomes noticeable. When someone hesitates before answering another character, I can see it immediately, which gives the scene a different feeling from watching a recording at home.
