Describe a neighborhood you enjoyed exploring abroad. What did you notice at street level, and why was it easy or interesting to explore?
One neighborhood I enjoyed in Portugal had narrow streets and patterned tiles covering many of the buildings. There were small grocery stores, bakeries, and benches at the corners. I liked walking there early in the morning, when people were opening their shops. The hills made some streets tiring, but there was always somewhere to stop. I didn't need to visit a famous attraction to enjoy the area. I could buy bread, sit outside, and watch the street slowly become busy. It felt like seeing a small part of everyday life rather than only moving between tourist sites. The changing level of the streets also gave me unexpected views. I would turn a corner and suddenly see the river between two buildings, which made even a short walk feel full of discoveries without needing a complicated route or a guide.
